Isaac Goertz and Jamie Schuman of Team905 p/b Steelmark Business Services cycling team traveled to Barrie this past Sunday to race in the 2014 Canadian National MTB Championships, putting a little national spotlight on the team’s goal of raising awareness and funding for Cystic Fibrosis Canada and Autism Ontario – Niagara!
The two days of racing was hosted by Hardwood Ski & Bike and organized by Pulse Racing; both having extensive experience in running pro caliber events. In addition to being a National Championship, the weekend was a planned test event for the 2015 PAN AM Games mountain bike competition.
Saturday’s schedule saw many Olympians, World Cup Pro’s, and top elite racers battle for National titles on a challenging course that incorporated many man made features and a significant amount of climbing
Sunday’s races proved to be just as challenging despite using a slightly different course (NO Bone Shaker!), but included a lot of the features that will be seen in the PAN AM races. Both Isaac and Jamie lined up for the 9:30am start, Isaac in Masters Sport 35-39 and Jamie in Single Speed.
Isaac completed the three lap 24km race in 1hr 37mins averaging 15kph per lap, placing him 11th in a field of 21. In the Single Speed race Jamie road in a strong field, finishing 11th with an average speed of 17kph and total time of 1hr 29mins.
A big thank you to Jamie and Isaac for representing Team905 p/b Steelmark Business Services
at this national event and continuing to show that riding and racing can bring much needed awareness to Cystic Fibrosis Canada, Autism Ontario and our fantastic team partners.
