Race #6 changed things up a bit due to some construction happening in and around the normal course. Instead of our normal downhill road start, we had a loop through a grass field with a short uphill to the first singletrack section. I wasn’t sure how this would play out, but knew it would make for a slower blast from the gun (though definitely no easier!) I ended up into the singletrack in second place (though following a different runner than normal.) I followed him through the first km of the course before I wanted to pick up the pace and went around. From there things were similar to other races although I noticed my legs felt like they had less power than I am used to. Usually by this stage my HR is high and my cardio is limiting but I could definitely feel my longer runs in my legs at this point.
I felt good coming back out to the top of Hydro Hill but didn’t have much of a gap between second place so I knew I would have to keep on the gas for the downhill. Thankfully the loose gravel has started to pack down and wash out so it’s a bit better surface for faster running. I managed to hold on and finish in around 23:45 which I was happy with.
I won’t be able to make it to race #7 so I’ll be looking forward to seeing how it plays out!
